After leading Division 2 of the NEMHL, the Albany Jr. River Rats swept through the final tournament willing all three of the regular games. In an exciting championship game against the Saratoga Blue Knights the game ended regulation time in a 1-1 tie – showing just how hard each team had worked!
In a 5-on-5 sudden death overtime the Rats dropped the puck in to win the championship!

The Capital Youth Hockey Association, playing as the Jr. River Rats, are again hosting the Rink Rat Tournament. Teams from mites to midgets are gathering in the Capital District to face off against each other!
The Midgets won the Saratoga Tournament last weekend and posed at the Times Union arena with their banner!

For those folks located anywhere in NY state, please remember that in addition to hockey, we do other “extreme sports”, such as weddings!
We’re participating in the Stick It To Brain Tumors event again this year! This weekend, women from around the northeast and Canada are meeting in the Messa rink at Union college to play hockey. This tremendous event is a fund raiser to support cancer research at Boston Hospital.
The tournament will continue through tonite and will run from 8am to about 4pm on Sunday. Come one down and support the ladies in this worthy cause!

For the graduating seniors – we do weddings and can travel as needed! If you or a friend is planning a wedding, give us a call at 518-225-6306. We typically book 1-2 years in advance for weddings – so now is definitely the time to call!
Although the regular league season had ended, the team entered the Spring Fling over at North Adams, MA for a final tournament. Three regular game with rather interesting results! The second game ended in a tie after struggling through ice related issues. Apparently an electrical problem disabled the compressors causing the ice temperature to rise significantly! In fact, the water laid down by the Olympia before third period had not frozen by games end!
Overall, however, results were wonderful! With a 2-0-1 record, the Capitals entered the championship game. Battling it out with the Northern Berkshire team, we were down 1-0 into the third period! Some fancy teamwork and great effort got us a goal causing the game to end in a 1-1 tie! On to overtime where, approximately 7 minutes into the period, Capital scored the tournament winning goal!
I have photos of the final goal, the players getting their trophies and the final team picture. As soon as I can, I’ll prepare those into a photo gallery and upload them for you to enjoy. The photos will be posted full-size – just right-click on them to save them to your computer. Then you can print them, make screen savers, etc. I’ll only have them up for a limited time, so please be sure to grab them as soon as possible! Watch here for an update with the link.
For those who had ordered a CD – I only found out the other day that the money had been collected! I’ve already burned the disks and am waiting for the mailing addresses for everyone – then I’ll shoot those out. It has the Rink Rat game, the game against the Comets just before the end of the season, and the photos from the Spring Fling. So if you had ordered the disk, you don’t have to download em. If you did not order the disk and still want one, please give me a call or email and we’ll work it out.
ATTENTION JUNIORS – I do senior portraits! Skip that boring studio and let me do your photos! Bring a friend or two along for their session and I have a special thank you gift for you!

This past weekend, the Capital Youth Hockey Association hosted the state level finals for the 10 & under players (aka Squirts). Congratulations to the Long Island Gulls who ultimately won the title. All of the teams worked extremely hard – its quite an accomplishment to even make it this far after the regional preliminaries!
Photos from the weekend will not be posted however teams wishing to may still place an order for a team disk by calling me directly at 518-225-6306. The photos will only be available to order for another couple of weeks as we make room for the next rounds of pictures!
This past weekend, Siena college hosted the SECHL tournament at the Albany County Hockey Facility.
The photos how now been posted here! There are over 200 photos from each of the four games we were able to capture.
Thank you to all the fans who came to cheer on their players and to the teams who participated!
Folks, just wanted to let everyone know that all items ordered at the tournament have either already been mailed or are going out today! My apologies for the delay – I normally try to get everything in the mail the same week as the tournament! Unfortunately, I seemed to have caught that plague that’s going around and spent 4 days in bed trying to recover!
